Rosemount Australia Fashion Week - Day Two...

Rosemount Australia Fashion Week – Day Two…

Livinia Nixon in Karen Willis Holmes (centre)

Silver has been a feature colour on a few runways so far this fashion week, in gloriously simple silhouettes and textures, which is all you need with such a statement colour.

Karen’s Pick – To really work silver to your best advantage take cue from Livinia Nixon and opt for a simple shape and neckline and let the fabric speak for itself! Livinia wore a silver sequinned backless Karen Willis Holmes gown to the Logies last year and looked absolutely ravishing!

Karen’s Tip – Silver is also an excellent alternative for brides wanting to steer away from the traditional ivory.

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Keisha’ gown

Another simple silhouette, in the form of a strapless column dress by Bec and Bridge. The soft print adds just enough detail to a simple design without overdoing it - perfect. This could also work really beautifully as a bridesmaid option.

Karen’s Pick – The ‘Keisha’ gown, with its straight column shape, looks gorgeous with the textured sequin silk georgette fabric, giving it a special point of different and a bit of sparkle.

Karen’s Tip – Normally with a soft column shape, you have to have a killer body to be able to pull it off. But ‘Keisha’ with its corset base bodice, creates a tiny waist, and is extremely flattering for most shapes. The heavy fabric also has the ability to conceal any problem spots you may have – an added bonus!

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Jade’ gown.

Zimmerman’s softly draped dress is on trend with all the soft folding that have been showcased on the runways so far. This dress style is also a great bridesmaid design, creating a sweet and sexy look that the ladies would happily wear again.

Karen’s Pick – For those who are fans of the silky, draped look, opt for ‘Jade’ with a soft crossover at the bust, and a slim flowing skirt, a perfect choice for a spring or summer garden wedding.

Karen’s Tip – With folds and draping over the bust, this sort of design works to create the illusion of a fuller bustline, as the folds create extra volume.

Little Joe (centre)
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Olivia’ and ‘Georgie’ gowns

At Karen Willis Holmes we love the effect of allover lace, and this little shift by Little Joe is no exception, a dress that looks so pretty and fresh.

Karen’s Pick – The ‘Olivia’ gown (left) is a very classic look, while those who want to add a bit of sparkle to the lace, look no further than the ‘Georgie’ gown with its beading, which catches the light beautifully, lifting the lace with a soft shimmer.

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Evaline’ gown

Knitwear label, Sabatini white, has created a sexy soft knit version of a classic V-neck, empire line gown – a simple yet sultry look.

Karen’s Pick‘Evaline’, one of our classic gowns, is gorgeous in its simplicity and leaves a bride’s options wide open to accessorise in a number of ways.

Karen’s Tip – An empire line gown is great for more petite girls, with the design’s ability elongating legs.

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Theresa’ gown

A gorgeous soft ruffled dress from Sabatini White. This dress just embodies what summer is all about, with its soft ruffles trickling down the skirt, fun, frilly and feminine.

Karen’s Pick – Ruffles are a gorgeous feature to add to a gown for something a little bit different. The ‘Theresa’, with a ruffle neckline and ruffle detail falling down the skirt, it is a fabulous option for brides having a more relaxed style wedding.

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Satine’ gown

No surprises that the Alex Perry show was a knock out, with impressive execution and stunning designs on the runway. The floaty feathers on this gown were a fun alternative feature on fabric and create quite the angelic look overall.

Karen’s Pick‘Satine’ takes feathers to the next level, with a stunning shoulder feature made entirely from soft feathers, which still allows movement for a softer finish – with a diamante detailing, this gown is an absolute show stopper.

Karen Willis Holmes ‘Sophia’ gown

This cute little number by Alex Perry was just adorable! We love a bit of appliqué on corset bodices – something that is featured a lot in Karen Willis Holmes designs. The lace softens the panel lines of a corset bodice, giving a slight sexy ‘lingerie’ feel in a sophisticated fashion.

Karen’s Pick‘Sophia’ features soft Chantilly lace with corded Chantilly lace layered over glimmer tulle on a corset bodice base – channelling this look with a gorgeous bridal feel.

Love the Logies...

Red Carpet looks to take you down the aisle…

What better place to draw inspiration for your wedding gown, than off the red carpet. With the mix of gorgeous celebrities frocked up by some of the country’s leading fashion designers, it is easy to get some great ideas for what you want to wear on your big day.
Today, Karen Willis Holmes is serving up the best red-carpet looks with gown ideas for you to try, to channel the look of your favorite celebrity Logies outfit.

Jessica Marais
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Sharon’ gown

The stunning gown worn by Jessica Marais has a very similar look to the ‘Sharon’ gown, with seam lines helping to draw the eye to the centre of the bodice and then down, creating the illusion of a longer torso.
Corsets are very flattering when made properly, especially in bridal-wear as they help to create a sexy, womanly silhouette accentuating the waist and creating a beautiful curve down through the hips, while hiding any unwanted lumps and bumps. Jessica’s gown uses lace for softer detailing than what we can see in the ‘Sharon’ gown, but still provides the same flattering hourglass shape that flows down into the fishtail finish.
Jessica is the pick of the night here at Karen Willis Holmes – she looked absolutely radiant and the dress choice was perfect – stylish, sophisticated, sexy and chic.

Karen’s Tip: Soon to arrive in the Karen Willis Holmes ready to wear collection is a lace-based corset, similar to that shown in Jessica’s gown. If this look has captivated you, keep in touch for more details on arrival time.

Megan Gale
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Penelope’ gown.

Megan Gale is statuesque and stunning at the best of times, but in a plunging v-neck, column-esque number, she radiates everything that the red-carpet should be about – classic, sexy and fabulous.
For brides seeking this style look, the ‘Penelope’ gown channels a similar feel, especially with the low v-neckline, teamed with an empire line and bias base, this gown skims gently over the hips, while still being semi-forgiving with the georgette overlay. The black sash adds a classical, yet modern finish to the gown.

Karen’s Tip: If the black sash isn’t for you, why not alternate it for another colour, maybe to match or contrast your bridesmaids? A splash of colour can change the whole look of a gown, so be creative and experiment with the finish you want to add.

Natalie Bassingthwaite
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Emily’ and ‘Natalie’ gowns.

Natalie Bassingthwaite was positively glowing in her gorgeous gown teamed with her growing baby bump. Here at Karen Willis Holmes, we love to add a bit of a diamante feature to finish off a wedding gown – while these are purely optional (so those who shy away from the bling, can still have the gown sans sparkle) sometimes they can be what a gown needs to get that extra ‘wow’ factor, which is exactly what has happened with Natalie’s gown.
Pictured above is the 'Emily' belt (left) and 'Natalie' belt (right) – each being used to cinch the waist and draw the eye to this point, as with the corsetry underneath the waist looks tiny. The shot of sparkle lifts the ivory colour too.

Karen’s Tip: Further to sporting the diamante feature, Natalie is carrying off another great bridal trend – she is wearing the soft grey tone, which is an excellent colour for brides to consider if they are steering away from the traditional white or ivory palettes. A muted silver is also a stunning look in terms of a bridal gown choice too.

Margot Robbie
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Keisha’ gown

Margot Robbie is rocking a fabulous silhouette in this Logies creation. This gown is completely wearable for the red carpet, or as a wedding dress with such a gorgeous shape, diamante-encrusted detailing and the on-trend asymmetrical one shoulder feature.
What really captivates us with Margot’s gown though is the shape and the ‘Keisha’ gown has a very similar shape, with its corseted bodice and straight skirt that really hugs the body and showcases the womanly curves. The silk sequined overlay is a heavier fabric, which can disguise a multitude of sins for those who are worried about showing too much.

Karen’s Tip: If the 'Keisha' gown has caught your eye, try teaming it with a diamante accessory to finish it off with the same feel of Margot Robbie’s Logies look.

Susie Porter
Karen Willis Holmes design ‘Emily’

Susie Porter takes lace to new levels with her sophisticated, yet sweet lace dress. A new style that recently made its way to our ready to wear stores is ‘Emily’, a beautiful lace jacket/top that can be worn on top of a soft bias gown, providing some coverage to the shoulders and upper arm. When teamed with a sequin diamante belt, this gown has the ability to carry a fabulous vintage look.

Karen’s Tip: We all know that lovely lace can be quite expensive, so if you are wanting a lace gown for your big day but are on a tight budget, consider using lace as a feature piece on your gown or use a laced cap sleeve.

Jennifer Keyte
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Michaela’ gown

Jennifer Keyte definitely dazzles in her mustard silk gown, complete with diamante features. A fabulous style, which would look picturesque in ivory, such as the ‘Michaela’ gown, with its intricately draped bodice and corseting, would create a fabulous bridal look.

Karen’s Tip: For brides who want to steer away from the strapless gown, consider a one-shoulder feature as this not only looks beautiful and is very flattering on most body shapes, but also breaks away from the traditional bridal look.

Rebecca Gibney
Karen Willis Holmes ‘Fleur’ bodice and ‘Edwardian’ skirt

The deep royal blue, off the shoulder design sported by Rebecca Gibney is every bit as fabulous as she is. A stunning style that flatters her figure and truly embodies the idea that ‘less is more’. Inspired?  Our ‘Fleur’ bodice teamed with the ‘Edwardian’ skirt would make for a fabulous wedding gown, while creating the same graceful, chic look as shown by Rebecca on the red carpet.

Karen’s Tip: If you can’t find the perfect single piece dress, consider the options of a bodice and skirt – these create some more flexible options and allow you to mix and match to create your own, unique look.

And to finish with a little giggle it was pleasant to see Richard Wilkins taking his hand to housework, vacuuming away on the red carpet…

With the Logies now done and dusted, hopefully you have been able to draw some inspiration from the red carpet and get some fresh ideas to consider when hunting for your wedding dress.

Don’t forget to consider all your options, including ready to wear and couture, both of which are offered here at Karen Willis Holmes.

Feel free to stop by one of our stores and work with the girls to find your perfect gown for your wedding and don’t forget that you can be as creative as you want to truly trademark your look.
